Correct operation and use
Reasonable control of rolling parameters
- Rolling force control:During the rolling process, the rolling force is precisely controlled according to the material, thickness and width of the strip. Avoid applying excessive rolling force, because excessive rolling force will cause the strip roller to bear excessive pressure, resulting in roller deformation and fatigue damage.
For example, when cold rolling thin plates, the rolling force should be controlled within a reasonable range according to the target thickness and material properties of the thin plates through precise pressure sensors and control systems, which can reduce the wear and deformation of the roller body and extend its service life.
- Rolling speed control: Reasonable adjustment of rolling speed is also critical. If the rolling speed is too fast, the heat generated by the friction between the plate and the roller will increase rapidly, which may cause thermal deformation of the roller and accelerate the wear of the roller.
For example, in the production of hot-rolled strip steel, the rolling speed should be reasonably set according to factors such as steel type, plate and strip thickness and rolling mill performance to prevent the roller from being damaged due to overheating and excessive friction. - Tension control:Appropriate strip tension can ensure the stable operation of the strip between the rollers and reduce deviation. If the tension is too large, the pressure of the strip on the roller body will increase, resulting in increased local wear of the roller body; if the tension is too small, the stability of the strip between the rollers is poor, and wrinkles and other problems are prone to occur, affecting the rolling quality and may also cause damage to the roller body. Therefore, during the rolling process, the tension must be accurately controlled according to the properties of the strip and the requirements of the rolling process.
Avoid overload operation
-
Understand the rated load of the plate and backup rollers and operate them strictly according to their load-bearing capacity. When arranging production tasks, avoid letting the plate and strip rollers exceed the rated load for a long time.
For example, when designing the production process, for the thicker and harder plate and strip rolling tasks, they should be reasonably allocated to prevent the same set of plate and strip rollers from continuously processing thick plate and strip rolling beyond their capacity, so as to avoid excessive fatigue and damage to the roller body.
- For sudden overload situations (such as the strip getting stuck during rolling, etc.), corresponding protection measures should be taken. For example, an overload protection device can be installed to automatically stop the machine or adjust the rolling parameters when the rolling force exceeds the set safety threshold to avoid serious damage to the strip rollers.
Optimize the working environment
Temperature and humidity control
-
Keep the temperature and humidity of the rolling workshop within the appropriate range. Extreme temperatures can affect the performance of the strip rollers. For example, high temperatures may cause thermal expansion of the roller body, affecting the rolling accuracy, while accelerating the evaporation and deterioration of the lubricant; low temperatures may increase the viscosity of the lubricant and affect the lubrication effect.
For example, in some high-precision strip rolling workshops, by installing an air-conditioning system, the temperature is controlled between 20-25℃ and the humidity is controlled between 40%-60%. This can provide a stable working environment for the strip rollers and reduce the adverse effects of temperature and humidity changes on them.
-
For some special rolling processes, such as hot rolling processes carried out in high temperature environments, effective heat dissipation measures must be taken.
For example, a cooling device, such as a water cooling system, is installed near the plate and strip rollers of the hot rolling mill to promptly remove the heat generated during the rolling process and prevent the rollers from overheating, thereby extending the service life of the plate and strip rollers.
Dust and corrosion prevention measures
-
Try to reduce the dust in the workshop, because dust entering between the roller and the strip or inside the bearing will increase friction and wear. The dust content can be reduced by installing an air filtration system and cleaning the workshop regularly.
For example, in the electronic strip rolling workshop, due to the extremely high requirements for the surface quality of the strip, high-efficiency air filtration equipment should be used to ensure that the air cleanliness in the workshop meets a certain standard to prevent dust from contaminating the strip rollers and strips.

Select high-quality accessories and materials
Roller material selection
-
According to the specific rolling process and requirements, select the roller material with good wear resistance, high strength and appropriate hardness.
For example, for the cold rolling process, high chromium cast iron, alloy steel and other materials are often used as working rollers. These materials have high hardness and wear resistance, can withstand the high pressure and friction during the cold rolling process, and effectively extend the service life of the plate and strip rollers.
- In some special rolling applications, such as rolling precious metals or high-precision electronic materials, it may be necessary to select roller materials with special properties, such as composite materials or roller materials coated with special functional coatings on the surface, to meet special rolling requirements and extend service life.
Bearing and seal selection
-
Choose high-quality bearings and seals. High-quality bearings have higher load capacity, lower friction coefficient and better wear resistance.
For example, choose high-precision rolling bearings, whose internal rolling elements and raceways are precisely machined, which can run stably under high speed and high load, reducing wear.
- Good seals can effectively prevent external impurities from entering the bearing and lubricant leakage. For example, when using rubber seals, it is necessary to select rubber materials with good oil resistance, wear resistance and aging resistance to ensure the sealing effect, thereby extending the service life of the bearing and the entire strip roller.
